Bound Beasts
Bound Beast
Behold now these creatures with cracked and crooked spines bound tight, captives in taught mammalian flesh. Symbiotic, cataclysmic, devouring even as they themselves are devoured.
Predators stalking the dimly lit corridors of our deepest minds long after each encounter. Offering both reflections of our greatest pinnacles and sober reminders that we are both the night and the things that go bump within it, legends locked away in time molded ossuaries.
It is these ill-prepped husks waiting to burrow into the skulls of unwary trespassers, these beasts, mankind’s pride and dismay both.
Background
This was a poem I wrote a few years ago for a poetry contest. I needed another entry to submit, each contestant had to have 5 poems and I only had 4 that I really liked. I wrote this poem at the last minute, I submitted everything with 15 minutes to spare. At first I wasn't too crazy about this poem honestly, but eventually it grew on me. It obviously didn't win, but I had a lot of fun writing it and my wife had fun reading it so that is what matters most.
